Gustafson Porter + Bowman sélectionné pour la compétition internationale Tour Eiffel
Le concours « Site Tour Eiffel », organisé par la Ville de Paris sous le titre « Découvrir, approcher, visiter » couvre les 54 ha de part et d’autre de la Seine, entre le Trocadéro et l’Académie militaire, et le long des quais entre Bir-Hakeim et le pont de l’Alma. La tour Eiffel elle-même est située au centre du site.
Dans le cadre des préparatifs de la ville pour les Jeux olympiques de 2024, le projet vise à accentuer la qualité architecturale de la tour Eiffel, à rehausser l’expérience piétonnière à la base de la tour, à moduler les connexions existantes et à améliorer la circulation transport, bus, bateaux et voitures.
Alors que 7 millions de visiteurs escaladent la tour chaque année, pas moins de 30 millions visitent le site dans son ensemble et font l’expérience des Jardins du Trocadéro, du Champ-de-Mars, de l’Esplanade ainsi que du parvis de la tour Eiffel. La compétition permettra également une restauration et un redéveloppement du paysage existant qui forment le Champ-de-Mars, un parc urbain utilisé par des résidents fortement locaux.
Plus de quarante événements majeurs se déroulent chaque année sur le Champ-de-Mars, contribuant à son rôle d’espace vert emblématique à Paris, visité par les Parisiens ainsi que les visiteurs du monde entier.
Cette grande compétition paysagère suit la procédure de « dialogue compétitif » de l’UE et durera neuf mois. L’équipe de Gustafson Porter + Bowman est composée de plus de quinze consultants, dont les architectes Chartier-Corbasson, Urbaniste Sathy et D&A, et les ingénieurs Bollinger + Grohmann et Ma-Geo.

Gustafson Porter + Bowman shortlisted for international Eiffel Tower competition
The ‘Site Tour Eiffel’ competition, organised by Ville de Paris under the title ‘Discover, approach, visit’, covers the 54ha area either side of the river Seine, between the Trocadéro and the Military Academy, and along the river embankments between Bir-Hakeim and Alma Bridges. The Eiffel tower itself is located at the centre of this site.
As part of the city’s preparations for the 2024 Olympic games, the project seeks to accentuate the architectural quality of the Eiffel tower, elevate the pedestrian experience at the base of the tower, mediate existing connections across the site and improve the circulation of the surrounding public transport, buses, boats and cars.
While 7 million visitors climb the tower every year, as many as 30 million visit the site as a whole and experience the Tower without ever climbing it – from its base; from the concourse; from the Trocadéro Esplanade or Gardens; or from the Champ de Mars. The competition will thus also allow for a restoration and redevelopment of the existing landscape which forms the Champ de Mars, an urban park used by heavily local residents. Over forty major events take place every year on the Champ de Mars, contributing to its role as an iconic green space in Paris visited by Parisians as well as visitors from all over the world.
This major landscape-led competition follows the EU’s ‘Competitive dialogue’ procedure and will last nine months. Gustafson Porter + Bowman’s team is comprised of over fifteen consultants, including Architects Chartier-Corbasson, Urbanists Sathy and D&A, and Engineers Bollinger + Grohmann and Ma-Geo.
