The Cyfarthfa Plan is a 25-year multi-layered, visionary and strategic masterplan to develop an all embracing ‘big vision’ for the Cyfarthfa heritage area and beyond. The key character areas across the site include Cyfarthfa Park Woodlands, Cyfarthfa Park south, Cyfarthfa Park West, Cyfarthfa Park East, Cyfarthfa Ironworks, Taf Fawr, and Taf Fechan; all of which feature multiple heritage assets that need to be enhanced and utilised.

The site as a whole, is also of great biodiversity and geological value. It supports habitats and species of local and national importance, including ancient woodlands that have been managed for hundreds of years. Today there are many reminders of Cyfarthfa’s industrial past, such as the ironworks, tramways, and quarries, all of which have been enveloped by nature. It is this transformation, converting it from its industrial past into a more ecological future (with industrial references), that is celebrated in our landscape concept for the site.
